Escaping to the sun as a family unit will leave you with memories and photographs that will last a lifetime. I still remember my childhood holidays, splashing in the sea, building sandcastles, skin feeing tingly after a day out in the sun …

Seems like yesterday!

These days, it’s becoming more and more affordable to jet off abroad for a holiday, with breaks in the UK costing almost as much. Often inclusive with those important extras like holiday insurance included in the price. Opening up a flight search to further away airports, and factoring in the cost of travel, will sometimes come up cheaper than regional airports, and this is something I’d recommend doing. If you have to travel further, such as to Gatwick Airport, then look at hotels to put you up overnight, meaning less travel stress, and an extra night’s holiday.

Of course, jetting off to pastures new with the kids can be stressful, so it pays to keep up to date with travel news and changes. I regularly check Gatwick departures information before I jet off, not only to find out which terminal I need to be at, but also to stay completely up to date with any changes, news, and of course, special offers on where to eat!

The best family holiday destinations tend to be wherever there is a beautiful beach to splash around on. Spain is a long-time favourite, and has the added perk of being close to home, so less of a flight time, and quicker to your destination. Benidorm is famous, because of the TV programme mainly, but there are also plentiful activities for children, including the beach, hotel pools, huge water park, and lots of entertainment.

Turkey is this possibly this year’s cheapest destination, and a fantastic family spot. Alanya, Marmaris, Icmeler, Gumbet and Kusadasi are all great family resorts, however Icmeler is possibly the most family friend of the lot, with a beautiful beach, nearby water-park, and lots of trips and sights to see nearby too.

The Canary Islands could also be your choice, and they have the added perk of being relatively warm all year around. Tenerife is bursting with family-friendly activities, and you’ll find some great deals on all inclusives.

Speaking of which, an all inclusive holiday is possibly the most cost effective way to travel as a family, because you don’t have to budget for the cost of eating out. You’re probably aware of the mounting soft drink bill, but you don’t have to worry about this when you’re all inclusive!

The downside is of course that you will have to travel during the school holidays, which can be slightly more expensive, unfairly if you ask me, however there are deals to be had, and the October holidays are a good time to grab that bargain.

It’s simply a case of being flexible, opening up that search, and grabbing a good deal – it can be done!
