Sometimes it’s nice to try something different. Going away is a lot of fun, but doing the same type of holiday can get boring, especially when there are so many different types of holidays that you can go on, even more so when you start doing the research.

Beach holidays or city breaks are a lot of fun, but on this occasion, why not try something completely new? If you enjoy getting active, you could book a kayaking holiday or a Camino de Santiago. For those of you who love animals, a Safari might be right up your street – there are so many options which you may not have thought of.

If you’re looking to do something different, we have put together a quick guide on three unique holidays that will create unforgettable memories. Who knows, once you’ve done it once, you may book it again, and it will become your new norm when going away.

Camino de Santiago

Book yourself an active holiday where you’ll hike and get to discover special and enigmatic places during your breakaway. A Camino de Santiago offers a unique and deeply enjoyable adventure, where you’ll forget about the hustle and bustle of everyday life and truly switch off. Choose your route and spend several days hiking, learning more about the places you visit and creating truly unique memories along the way. The routes vary in difficulty, making it perfect for all levels of fitness.

Safari holiday

For those of you who love animals, why not combine this love with a truly unique experience, which is a safari holiday. Spend your day with nature, seeing many animals in their natural habitats (with a dedicated tour guide, of course). You could see elephants, lions, giraffes, zebras and more. Most safari companies will organise your whole trip, including your flights, food & drink and accommodation, meaning all you need to do is find the right safari for you and they will do the rest.

Kayaking holiday

A kayaking holiday is a unique combination of adventure, nature, and serenity, it’s hard to find a holiday that compares. When going on a kayaking trip, you’ll spend your time on the water, exploring different scenery, in beautiful destinations, such as kayaking in Norway along the Norwegian Fjords. A trip could be a mini-break of three days, five days or longer – it’s all down to your preference. Regarding difficulty level, there are different holidays which match different abilities, helping you find one to suit your standards. When you aren’t kayaking on the water, you will be staying in a local hotel, or you could be camping; this is down to your preference.

Cruising holiday

There is something very special about cruising. It’s such a joy waking up each day in a different location and getting to explore multiple countries in one holiday. One minute you could be in Miami, exploring the beach, the next you could arrive in New York to enjoy the city. Cruising allows you to get a taste of different countries, which you may then decide to visit for a longer period. On board a cruise ship, you can enjoy various restaurants, drink at different bars and watch some very talented shows. It’s just as enjoyable being on a cruise ship as it is exploring each destination.

Train journey holiday

You may initially think – How can a train be a holiday? You use one to get to work each day. But certain companies in different countries have completely refitted a train, making it a relaxing space where you can sleep, eat and drink on. The Glacier Express in Switzerland is a good example. They have created an unforgettable journey through the Swiss Alps, which you will love. Onboard, you can enjoy a five-course meal and access to an exclusive glacier lounge for some drinks – the journey lasts 8 hours, so for this holiday, you’ll have to find accommodation nearby. In other train experiences, you can sleep on the train on a comfy bed.

These holiday ideas are different from your normal city break and will give you the chance to experience the world in a different way, which will be very memorable. Our advice would be to try a couple of them over the next few years and see which one is your favourite – you’ve got nothing to lose, and at least you can say you’ve tried something different.

Doing something different for your holiday can make it more of an experience and something you may look more forward to doing. What type of holiday are you planning on doing this year? Will you be booking one of the above suggestions? Is there a unique holiday that we haven’t included that you think we should?
