The latest buzz about the new social media app Pepo got us wondering what we were missing. The app launched just last year and has been growing steadily ever since. It was created to connect people by their various passions whether travel, fashion, cooking, shopping or whatever piques your interest. But what makes it stand out among the throngs of other social media applications we’ve grown accustomed to?
The app is organized by themes called channels which allow you to join and participate in the ones that most interest you. Fitness? Movies? Technology? LGBT focus? There’s a channel for all those and anything else you can think of. Can’t find the channel you’re looking for? You can start it yourself! These channels provide a social interaction among like-minded people to be able to share your ideas, tips and interests as well as ask knowledgeable users about anything you need to know. Restaurant recommendations, tips for travelling or simply meeting others who are attending the same upcoming event as you. Channels can be private, public or secret allowing you to set the tone and audience for yours. There are lots of ways to take advantage of Pepo depending on how you use it. The encouragement of sending videos to interact with one another creates a more personal experience for the user by breaking the anonymity the internet can often create. So what has our experience been like?
Well we’ve been using Pepo for the past two months now and have easily added to our repertoire of apps. As bloggers it’s allowed us to easily connect with our followers, share our content and experiences and provide tips and advice as members of our channel ask direct questions with messages or videos. As members of other groups ourselves, we’ve been able to follow some of our favorite bloggers and joined groups relevant to us, like the World Pride in Madrid channel. That’s where we learned what some of our fellow travel friends are planning for the weekend as well as what’s going on during all the festivities.
One of the downsides of the app was not having a website to access your content from a computer, but that was just resolved with the release of a web version just a couple of weeks ago. The app is creating its niche within the social media-verse and is continually improving with regular updates in responses to users of the app. Some of the best aspects of the app are photo editing, live videos using their Spotlight feature, Q&A, a “nearby” feature showing relevant chats going on in your current location and the multitude of diverse channels “connecting people to their passions” – which is what the app is all about.
Don’t just take our word for it. Download the app for free at the App Store or Google Play and check it out yourself. Let us know what you think about it and be sure to follow our Two Bad Tourists channel!
