Tigers We Didn’t See in Ranthambhore

After my week in Udaipur and Auston's in New Delhi, we met up at the Sawai Madhopur train station to visit Ranthambhore National Park

We were advised online to purchase our tour/safari tickets in advance to guarantee a seat on a gypsy (the 6 seat jeep – recommended over the 20 seat canter).

We woke early the next day for the Park only to discover that all the guides were on strike and no one was going in. Apparently (and tragically) a forest official was attacked by a tiger a few days earlier during a road repair.

But later in the day, we were told that the Park had opened again and the strike had been settled. Slightly unnerved by the tiger incident, yet still determined to see the Park, we went via the only seat we could get in a canter (which we didn't find to be as bad as described online).

So we saw monkeys

And deer

And beautiful scenery

And a view of the 10 century Ranthambhore Fort

But no tigers. Perhaps that was for the best considering the recent tiger encounter.
