Our first sightseeing stop in Addis was the National Museum of Ethiopia. It wasn’t a spectacular museum, but it had a quaint charm to it. I was interested in seeing Lucy, a skeleton dated back 3.2 million years. Come to find out that only a replica is on display and the original is kept in the museum laboratories. There was also a display on Selam, a skeleton from 3.3 million years ago that is considered the ‘first child’. The physical reconstruction is a little creepy looking to me. But the highlight of the day was discovering that there were tortoises kept on the museum’s front lawn.
